A small group of people in June of 2003 met in a home on the north side of Abilene with the desire to have a New Testament, Bible believing church. They called Mike Jones to be the first pastor in the second week of existence. The church was named “Harvest Baptist Church” and organized in a short amount of time. The Lord blessed the church in an extraordinary way and within two months had to relocate to a store front just off of Judge Ely Rd.
After only eight months in existence, Harvest Baptist Church was contacted by The First Church of the Nazarene which offered to sell its buildings. The Lord opened every door for the sale to go through and on September 1, 2004, Harvest Baptist Church had its first Sunday Worship services on the corner of 1389 Vine St. at S. 14th. The property includes a nice sanctuary with ample Sunday School rooms, nurseries, offices, and a Family Life Center.
Since then, God has led Pastor Roy Meksch to pastor this church since March of 2010. Pastor Roy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as well as a fire to see lost souls saved.
Harvest Baptist Church is a growing and exciting church. God’s hand is truly on this ministry because it is His church. There is no question who leads this church and its many ministries, God and God alone. We are so very thankful that God is continuing to bless the preaching of His Word and the faithfulness to His Word. The Bible is still the standard bearer of this church and God willing, always will be.
We have a strong Sunday School ministry that does not cater to one age over another. We are reaching all ages through the Sunday School, from the toddlers, all the way through our senior adults. We want to meet the spiritual needs of all ages and not exclude anyone because of race, social, or age issues. The God we serve loves all people of all ages, and we feel strongly that God has put us in a place to co-labor with Him and accomplish Kingdom work that will last for all of eternity.
Harvest Baptist Church is traditional in worship and we are a strong Bible believing, Bible Preaching Baptist Church. We make no apologies that we refer to God’s Word on all issues of living. We strive to create an atmosphere that is conducive to worship and not fleshly entertainment and we believe that God is honored and has given us His approval.
On a regular basis we are seeing people saved, baptized, and called into full-time Christian ministry. God’s hand is truly moving here and we pray that we will continue to be faithful to Him. Our best days are ahead and we look forward to continue to see God’s blessings on this special place.
